James McGovern recently joined SRKW as Of Counsel and works primarily with the Firm’s international and domestic securities group. He bases his practice out of the state of Washington and focuses on investor protection issues. In this capacity, Mr. McGovern works closely with SRKW's institutional investor clients, including numerous state, county, and city public pension funds, Taft-Hartley funds and asset managers, to help ensure that their investment interests are adequately protected from the risks associated with corporate fraud and poor corporate governance.

Prior to joining SRKW, Mr. McGovern served as Of Counsel at the firm of Cohen, Milstein, Hausfeld, & Toll, where he worked on several well-known securities fraud class actions, including cases against WorldCom, Parmalat, UICI, Pozen Inc. and Cabletron. While at Cohen Milstein, Mr. McGovern worked closely with the firm's institutional investor clients and developed an extensive network of relationships with pension funds and asset managers across the country. As an attorney at Cohen Milstein, Mr. McGovern belonged to several public pension associations and was invited to address the members of a number of these associations, including the Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems and the Michigan Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems, to speak about ways in which institutional investors could guard their assets against the risks of corporate fraud and poor corporate governance.

Prior to joining Cohen Milstein, Mr. McGovern was an associate at the firm of Latham & Watkins where he worked primarily on complex litigation and FIFRA arbitrations. At Latham & Watkins, Mr. McGovern also worked on matters relating to corporate bankruptcy and project finance and successfully retained a large investment bank as a new client for the firm's project finance department. While working at Latham & Watkins, Mr. McGovern co-authored two articles on issues related to bankruptcy filings: Special Issues In Partnership and Limited Liability Company Bankruptcies and When Things Go Bad: The Ramifications of a Bankruptcy Filing.

Mr. McGovern received his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D. magna cum laude 2002) where he graduated with high honors and was selected for the Order of the Coif. Prior to law school, he attended American University where he received a Presidential Scholarship and graduated with high honors (B.A. International Studies magna cum laude 1994) and (M.B.A. Finance summa cum laude 1998).
