Judge compliments SRKW in approving landmark settlement

On December 9, 2008, Judge Paul S. Diamond approved settlements with the last five defendants in In Re OSB Antitrust Litigation, No. 06-826 (E.D. Pa.), which brought the total amount of settlements in the case to $120 million. In doing so, Judge Diamond commented favorably on SRKW: "Counsel have represented their clients with consummate skill and efficiency, bringing this massive matter to conclusion in less than three years. Lead class counsel – Jeffrey Corrigan and the other lawyers from Spector Roseman Kodroff & Willis – performed brilliantly in this exceptionally difficult case." Judge Diamond noted that the case was "exceedingly complex" and that the statistics told the story of how hard the lawyers had worked. He noted, for example, that more than 13 million documents were produced, more than 80 depositions taken and the court's docket ultimately swelled to include nearly 1,000 filings. Judge Diamond also noted that, unlike many antitrust class actions, "there was no underlying government investigation on which counsel could rely." He also noted the "innovative provisions" of the settlement agreements, which required the settling defendants to cooperate against all non-settling defendants. "These provisions," he wrote, "may well have figured into the eventual decisions of all defendants to settle."
